My “thumb thang”

So I have this “thumb thang” that I’m going to have looked at next week. *sigh* I hate going to the doctor.
I first noticed my “thumb thang” not long after Mom died, which was about 8 months ago. It wasn’t very big then, but it’s been growing ever since.
I’m not worried about how it looks, but the dang “thang” has started to hurt. So what is it? I dunno…it looks eerily similar to this picture I found online, except that mine is right on the joint closest to the fingernail.

I kinda hope that’s what it is because that sounds pretty easy to just hack off. Well, not like “hack off at home with a Ginsu knife” but you know what I mean.
I’ll find out for sure on Tuesday. Meantime, I will worry. Oh, not about the “thumb thang.” I’ll worry about how badly the insurance company will screw up the claim/payment. They’re so darn good at that.
