Peaches and ketchup

How did you spend your Sunday?  I spent mine up to my elbows in peaches and ketchup.

When we first bought this place, there were a few old peach trees. They have been nearly dead for the last few years—in fact, one of them finally croaked this past winter.  The other one was more of a yard ornament this spring: just one more thing to mow around.

But it actually put on peaches this year!  I’ve been telling husband I thought they were getting almost ripe, but he insisted they weren’t and that he didn’t like that variety anyway.  🙄

When he saw his squirrel (Sissy) eating one the other day, he decided he’d take another look.  Lo and behold, he found out they aren’t too bad!  So today he picked all but a few that he left for Sissy.  We blanched, peeled and sliced them.  He had enough to make a nice, big cobbler (YUM!), and I froze the rest for peach preserves.

The ketchup?  Oh.  Well, I’m the church secretary/bookkeeper, and I’m still playing “ketchup” from missing church two weeks in a row.  😉
