God’s blessings

Today I am dropping the smarmy attitude for something a little more serious: BLESSINGS.

An online acquaintance recently remarked about how deaths come in 3’s.  I don’t know about that, but they do seem to come in clusters.  Husband and I have attended as many as five funerals in one year—which seemed like a LOT of sadness.

But death doesn’t always mean sadness… sometimes we watch people suffer for so long that it seems like a blessing when they are finally able to escape the pain and move on to a better place.

Before I get too sidetracked, let me tell you what I think about blessings.  I believe it’s human nature to compare our blessings to someone else’s and think we want theirs instead of ours.  I mean, I’ll admit to being envious of people who were blessed with winning the lottery or, on a more realistic scale, blessed with good hair or pretty skin or career opportunities that I didn’t get.

Everything you have right now (good OR bad) is a blessing.  And it’s not yours by chance or coincidence.  It’s yours because God gave it to you.  Now if you think about a blessing as a “gift,” well—it would be pretty rude to tell God, “Hey, I don’t like this.  Does it come with a gift receipt so I can exchange it for something else?”

So be grateful for your hand-selected blessings. You may not want or like them, and you may not understand why you are stuck with them.  But you are.  Keep looking for ways to use your blessings in a positive way, and they will come back to you in ways you can’t imagine.  😉
