Human nature

I was thinking on my drive to OKC yesterday how funny human nature is… not “HA HA” funny, but just interesting.

We go along every day, day after day, doing our thing—whatever our thing is.  Then something happens and the world turns on a dime.  Suddenly, the things that seemed important fade into the background.  Suddenly, every moment is consumed and we must focus on life or death issues.  Suddenly, we are reminded of what is truly important.

Such has been my life for the last (almost) 48 hours.  Without going into all of the icky details, mom had a 4-hour surgery last night starting about 9:00 for a triple bypass.  The surgeon said she had a very, very sick heart.  She came through the surgery well but still has a long way to go to get out of the woods.

Bottom line: she has some other issues but everything else is secondary to fixing the heart.  So we’re going one day at a time one hour at a time minute by minute.  And knowing that whatever the outcome, God has it under control.
