Kudos to the sheriff’s department

Living in the country—just like living in town—has pros and cons. One of the disadvantages of being in the country is that inconsiderate people from town actually load their trash into a vehicle, drive out of the city limits, and dump it on the roadside.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.  😡

A few weeks ago, husband came home from checking cattle and told me that someone had dumped a pile of “stuff” a mile east of us.  He had stopped to see what was there 🙄 and found a dog sitting on a blanket.  Apparently, the heartless idiot who dumped the trash also abandoned the dog.  Husband looked through the trash and wrote down the name and address of the person.  I looked up the person’s phone number and called it, but it was disconnected.

I called the sheriff, and the dispatcher said that yes, they knew about it…someone had called the day before…they had tried to track down the owner…couldn’t do anything about it since nobody witnessed the dumping…blah blah blah.  I was outraged!  Dispatcher finally said she’d send another deputy out there.

An hour or so later, a deputy called me and said that another deputy would take the dog home and make sure it had food and water.  He also said he would issue a warrant for the “idiot” for illegal dumping and cruelty to animals (or something like that).  I was so touched!  I could tell the deputy was choked up and deeply saddened about that poor dog, who had sat there on a blanket for at least 24 hours waiting for its owner to return.

I don’t know how the situation resolved itself, but I felt better knowing the dog had been rescued.  Kudos to the Garfield County deputy who had a heart. And I suspect there is a special place in hell for the dumper—and that it is real close to the flames.   😡
