Shrinkage

If you are a Seinfeld fan, you obviously know about “shrinkage.”  😆

We have shrinkage at our house. It’s not quite the same type as George had after a swim, but it does have to do with water.

Our pond is suffering from “saturation,” which means that water is soaking into the banks. Evidently, it’s very common during the first year of a new pond.  What happened is that the water level had slowly but steadily risen since last fall. As it gradually rose, the water was soaking into the surrounding soil.

Then when it rained in May (even though we didn’t get nearly our share), it raised the pond level quickly.  But the rain stopped, the sun came out, the wind blew, and—well, the water started shrinking saturating into new, dry dirt and the water level keeps going down.

Kinda like George didn’t like shrinkage, we aren’t fans of saturation.  We’ll be glad when the darn water hole GETS full and STAYS full.

On a happier note, we added perch to the pond. They and the catfish (and the crawdads) feed frantically every night about 7:30, and that’s cool!
