The Land of Lackawata

We need rain.  Until it comes, we have temporarily named our place the “Land of Lackawata.”

The pond was dug in September.  Here it is in March…most of it at that point had filled with groundwater due to a lack of moisture during the winter months. You can see our “fish condo” (the pipe and pallets), which is to give the little fish a place to hide from the big ones.

Here is the pond in May after about a two-inch rain. That was our last significant rainfall. The only part of the fish condo you can still see is the pipe, and you can barely see that!.

Here is the pond in July.  Not only can you see the pipe and pallets, but you can also see the two 55-gallon drums they are sitting on.

Depressing…very, very depressing.  😦

No “floaters” yet, and they eat good when I feed them. I guess if it gets really bad, we’ll have a fish fry.
