Bottoms up

I went for a follow-up appointment with the pain doctor on Wednesday. I am better—sooooo much better than when I first saw him. But I am not “well” yet.

If I’m sitting for more than 30-45 minutes, I have to prop up on one hip with one or both legs under me and lean over the arm of the sofa (or the arm rest in the truck) rather than sit normally. (This awkward position takes the pressure off my tailbone.) Otherwise, it takes me a few days to recover and get back to where I was in the healing process.

The doc wants to do another set of injections.   I’m not nuts about the idea, but his concern is that while I’ve figured out ways to sit, I am jacking my body up in other ways.  And the associated mental stress has taken a real toll…regardless of how chipper I try to sound. Day after day after day on this couch—not being able to function like I used to—has been very depressing.  The doc just feels another round of injections will get me better faster.

I agreed to schedule the shots on December 3 (two weeks from today).  With the cruise getting so close, I want to feel good!  Otherwise, I’m afraid the airline flight to Florida is going to be brutal, and I’ll spend my first two days aboard the ship just trying to feel better.

Soooooooo, it will be “bottoms up” for me yet again (not “bottom” up, as in ONE bottom, because mine is pert’ near the equivalent of TWO). But I will be a good patient and try not to cry this time—just lay down on the table, point my butt cheeks up to heaven, and wait for the “Michael Jackson” sedatives to do their job.  🙂

I hope this round does the trick! No, I’m going to say this round WILLdo the trick and you’ll feel sooo much better. No more stressing over laying on the couch…when your sick that’s what you do.

Thanks, Karen. Although you may regret those words in a few months when when I embarass you by taking my BIG butt down the BIG slide on the BIG “boat” (as Donnie calls it!)…
